The wait for the iPhone 18 Pro is over. Apple has unveiled the long-awaited iPhone Duo.

Everyone suspected that Apple would come up with it. At its September keynote, the California-based electronics manufacturer not only showed the world the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max but also its first foldable smartphone, which it named iPhone Duo. Were expectations regarding its design met? And how does it stack up against the eighteen?

While the Pro series brings primarily an evolution in the form of a new chip, camera, battery, and other improvements, the iPhone Duo opens up a whole new world for "Apple fans" that they have until now only seen from competing brands.

But let's take it one step at a time.

The iPhone 18 Pro has received a new chip and a camera with a variable aperture. The battery lasts up to 45 hours

At first glance, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max look similar to their predecessors, but upon closer inspection, you will encounter significant differences.

The biggest news is the 2nm A20 Pro chip, which is set to offer higher performance along with better efficiency. Thanks to more economical manufacturing technology and better cooling, the phone can handle demanding games, video editing, or AI tasks for longer without a significant drop in performance. At the same time, it manages the battery more efficiently.

As expected, the main camera has also undergone an upgrade. The 48MP Fusion camera now has a variable aperture that can be adjusted in a range from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4. It thus reacts better to the amount of light, and as a user, you get more control over the final photograph.
Contrary to expectations, both models have a variable aperture, not just the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Apple has also improved video and added additional professional controls directly to the Camera app.

There has also been a shift in battery life. The iPhone 18 Pro should handle up to 36 hours of video playback, and the Pro Max up to an impressive 45 hours. Charging has been accelerated; you can fill the battery to 50% capacity in approximately 15 minutes.

What, on the other hand, is not changing significantly is the familiar Dynamic Island, which is only slightly smaller and can display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.

In the Czech Republic, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at 34,990 CZK, while the Pro Max is expected to cost from 37,990 CZK.

What did we expect from the iPhone 18 Pro and what does it actually look like?

From a phone design perspective, the iPhone Duo is the biggest evolution that Apple has committed to in many years. And, of course, it was intentional.

The creators in Cupertino opted for an attractive book-style design for the foldable mobile. When closed, it has a classic outer display with a diagonal of 5.4 inches; when opened, a 7.6-inch OLED display appears before you.

The design is unexpectedly thin. In the open state, the Duo is only 5.2 mm thick; closed, it measures 11.3 mm and weighs 254 grams. The main advantage is not so much the ability to open the phone, but mainly the extra space.

Thanks to this, you can work with multiple applications simultaneously on the mobile and make better use of the surface, which resembles a small tablet. The manufacturer also adapted the iOS 27 operating system to the large internal display.

A surprise and a compromise is the lack of Face ID; instead, the smartphone uses Touch ID integrated into the side button.

And what about performance? Inside this new product lies the same chip as in the Pro models, namely the A20 Pro.

Apple also used a special cooling system and a dual-battery design so that the phone has a long battery life despite its thin body. According to Apple, this reaches up to 31 hours of video playback on the internal display and up to 44 hours when using the outer display.

However, the cameras are simpler than those on the Pro models. The Duo has a dual 48MP Fusion camera system with a main and ultra-wide-angle camera. A separate telephoto lens is missing.

The price also corresponds to the innovative product. In the Czech Republic, you can get the iPhone Duo starting from 54,990 CZK for the 256GB version, and the highest 2TB variant costs over 90,000 CZK.

Pre-orders begin on October 16 and sales on October 23.

Deciding between the new iPhones is a bit easier this year because Apple is targeting a completely different target group with each one.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max make sense for users who want to stay with the "classic" smartphone design and prefer a top-notch camera, high performance, and long battery life. The Pro Max adds a larger display and even longer battery life to this.

The iPhone Duo, on the other hand, is particularly interesting for anyone who loves innovation and wants the largest possible workspace without having to carry a tablet with them. When closed, it still offers a relatively compact phone, and when opened, a practical 7.6-inch display.

However, one pays for this flexibility. The Duo is significantly more expensive than the iPhone 18 Pro, and in some respects, Apple had to make compromises (for example, the camera or Face ID).
