What is a MagSafe charger and how does it work?

MagSafe is a standard for wireless charging and magnetic attachment, which allows you to charge your phone and other devices without a cable, and also easily attach accessories to your phone using magnets (e.g., power bank, holder).

The MagSafe standard uses magnetsthat automatically align the phone in the correct position, making charging more efficient and achieving up to 15 W of power. This is a difference from the common Qi standard (without magnets), with which you achieve around 7.5 W of power.

Which devices are FIXED MagSafe chargers compatible with?

FIXED MagSafe chargers are automatically compatible with iPhones 12 and newer.

However, you can also charge an older iPhone or an Android phone with them – just use a magnetic ring, a MagSafe case, or have a phone model that supports the Qi2 standard.

What is the difference between MagSafe, Qi, and Qi2?

MagSafe is not the only wireless charging standard; you may encounter three:

• MagSafeis Apple's technology that uses magnets to precisely align the phone on the charger for convenient and fast wireless charging.
• In the case of Qi, it is an older standard for wireless chargingwithout magnets.
• Qi2 is a newer standard with magnets,which automatically align the phone on the charger, making charging more precise and efficient than with Qi2. FIXED chargers with Qi2 certification also work with Android phones.

Answers to frequently asked questions about MagSafe chargers

Do MagSafe chargers also charge Samsung phones?

Yes, but charging a Samsung phone with a MagSafe charger only works as regular wireless Qi charging.

What is a MagSafe case?

A MagSafe case is a cover with integrated magnets that makes the phone a MagSafe-compatible device.

Does a MagSafe charger work even without a MagSafe case?

Yes, with iPhones 12 and newer, MagSafe works even without a case and magnetic ring.

What power do I need for fast charging?

For fast charging, ideal power is at least 15 W, and both the phone and charger must support this power.
